back to basics

I'm a total blog slacker. I know it. I will admit it. I'm going to own it. And now, I'm going to change it.

We have lots to catch up on! I have changed studios and am now situated on the beautiful Frankfort Avenue in Louisville *bonus that it's right next to Joella's Hot Chicken*, I've photographed so many adorable kiddos and families, and I had another baby of my own! Many of your families have grown in numbers and I am so excited to meet more of you!

Bear with me while I get this site up to date. It's definitely wearing it's three year old face right now. I'm going to get her all shined up and ready to go again with some fantastic content. Watch for a studio tour, some behind-the-scene sessions, and lots of beautiful babies.

In the meantime, check out a sweet pea from last week. He came to me for his two month portraits and completely rocked my morning with all of his squishy goodness.

3's company

I've known their momma for YEARS and have loved watching her family grow. I did their second baby's portraits a couple of years ago, as well as a couple of family sessions. I was ecstatic when she emailed that she was needing me for their third!

To top it off, she has this history of having big babies which is totally my weakness :)

The outtakes from sibling shots are always *the* best!

Cheers!

mini cuties

The next few posts will feature my 10 Minute Mini families! This was one of my more wild ideas, but it worked SO much better than I ever could have imagined. When it was all said and done, all of my families had hefty galleries of digital images to download. SUCCESS!

These sweeties were FANTASTIC. All of these (AND MORE!) in just 10 minutes.

Cheers!

Woodland Creatures

I met this gorgeous momma while doing some volunteer work with Cabbage Patch Settlement House; an organization dedicated to changing the lives of  at-risk children. She is their designated manager of public and donor relations, however she does so much more than just that. At each event I have been a part of, she is constantly buzzing around, organizing teams, hosting guests, and solving problems. Not only is she the go-to person for many of these events, she is also an amazing photographer who gifts The Patch with her art.

Although it's always an honor to hear someone wants to book me for a maternity and newborn package, I was *so* excited that these two chose ME to be their photographer. With both of them holding so much artistic ability, I was super nervous!

In discussing locations for their maternity session, she sent me a picture of a tree branch and gave me the name of the park. With that, I went wondering one evening to not only stumble upon the branch from the picture, but also a perfect little spot, barely tread upon, with stunning lighting. And then, magic happened...

While nothing is ever predictable with babies, this sweet girl is sure to have the most beautiful childhood imaginable with these two as parents. I can't wait to get my hands on her ;)

Cheers!

Miss Maya turns One!

Believe it or not, to watch my littlest clients grow is almost more heart-wrenching than watching my own babies grow!

I've been photographing this babe since she was only a couple of months old. When I first saw those big brown eyes and those mile long eyelashes, I was in love. While she is always quite content during her sessions, she makes me work hard for that smile!!  I'm so happy to have her sweet family in my circle of amazing clients, and can't wait to see them again!

Happy, happy birthday, Baby Girl :)

Boutique School Portraiture

In case you were unaware, in addition to my full time photography business, I am also a part time preschool teacher :) And when my two worlds collide, it looks something like this:

MHP{Boutique School Portraiture}

Do you know of a preschool who could use a school photo makeover? I'd love to help :)

A Celebration.

I sometimes have these grand ideas that swirl and tumble through my head all night long for many, many weeks at a time. Sometimes they fizzle out. Other times, they won't. These would be the ideas that I refer to as 'projects'.

In my head, projects are defined as this:

An activity, event, or creation that I would like to see completed at some point in my lifetime.

Being that I am a 97% natural light-using photographer, these wicked cold months are usually filled with new marketing ideas, some new branding possibilities, tax preparation, and warm fuzzy socks.

For 2014, I want more.

I have decided to take my less active months and use them to benefit others. Women, specifically. It is time for all women to look at themselves and see nothing but beauty. It is time for us to come together to lift each other up. It is time to put down the airbrushed magazines and start looking at who we really are. To really see each other as amazing, elegant, powerful, intense, natural, and passionate celestial beings. We are women. We are fierce. We are strong. And we are abso-freakin'-lutely gorgeous.

Now, back to these projects...

Celebrate yourself and each other. It is urgent.
